At Universal Care, we understand that it's our professionals who make us the success we are today. That's why we are committed to rewarding our people for the outstanding contributions they make each and every day.

hiring process

equal opportunity statement

It is and will continue to be the policy of Universal Care that all persons are entitled to Equal Employment Opportunity regardless of race, color, national origin, ancestry, religion, sex, age, marital status, sexual orientation, mental or physical disability, medical condition, pregnancy, veteran status, or any other legally protected status.

Hiring Procedure

Universal Care’s hiring process is very thorough. In addition to interviews with Human Resources staff and our department heads, we will check your business references as thoroughly and with as many sources as possible. This may include a criminal background investigation or credit check at our expense before any offer of employment is extended. Once all involved are in agreement on hiring, the prospective employee will be offered the position contingent upon passing a pre-employment physical.

OUR BENEFITS

Starting Salaries and Performance Reviews

Universal Care offers very competitive salaries and benefits. Initial salary offers are typically based on (1) pre-established salary ranges and (2) internal equity – the notion that new employees’ years of experience and technical abilities should be matched or “slotted” to the years of experience and skills of our existing staff. Salaries are typically determined at the final round of interviews and shared with you at the time of offer.

All employees hired at Universal Care are “at will” unless an employment contract dictates otherwise. In addition, your first three months with our organization will be considered an “introductory” or “training” period. Interim performance evaluations may occur after your first three months with Universal Care. Performance reviews normally occur annually on the anniversary of the date of hire, or date into the position, thereafter.

Benefits

We offer benefit-eligible (i.e. full-time regular) employees and their dependants a flexible benefits program that will provide you with significant opportunities and advantages. You may choose from a wide menu of options including medical, dental, vision, short-term disability, and voluntary life insurance for you, your spouse and your children. As a benefit-eligible employee, you may join our 401(k) plan during your first month of hire. Additionally, Universal Care provides a life insurance policy for you with the policy amount based on length of service.

Insurance premiums are subject to change at any time throughout the year. You are eligible for insurance benefits the first of the month after completion of 90 days employment.

Paid Holidays

Universal Care's administrative office is closed for six business holidays each year. Our medical offices, however, may remain open for business. You will receive the paid holidays benefit once you have completed ninety days of full time employment. The following are the six paid holidays we observe for compensation purposes only, New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day.

All full time employees, who have completed one year of employment, will receive time off with pay for one personal holiday per year to be granted on their birth date and may be eligible to receive a second personal holiday to be granted on their employment anniversary date (anniversary of the date of hire). Personal holidays do not accrue and must be used during the payroll period in which the actual anniversary/birth date occurs.

Paid Time Off

Universal Care offers full time employees paid sick days and vacation days. After ninety days of full time employment, employees begin to be granted paid sick leave. Sick leave is granted and does not accrue. Paid vacation begins to accrue after ninety days of full time employment. Employees have different rates of vacation accrual, based upon position held, and should refer to Human Resources for their rate of vacation accrual and maximum accrual cap.
